Yesterday my hairdresser Mrs. Charlene (who’s going on 70) was telling me about how she was watching the Republican convention and felt so disgusted by Clint Eastwood’s speech.

She kept saying how she hates how people just up and disrespect the President, and that she was so angered by it she couldn’t sleep. She stayed up all night until 5 am, and then had to get up and go to work, because of the stress of watching that. 

She said watching someone mock and ignore the President like that reminded her of growing up, and living through Jim Crowe laws, and she was too upset to sleep.

This is why racial PTSD is real. 

You can’t make it legal to shame a group of people for close to 100 years (while they have children and raise their offspring under this umbrella of shame) and just not have it affect you or how you think the world perceives you.

My parents lived through Jim Crowe, and I remember my dad telling me how he had to constantly remind himself, in his adulthood, not to break eye-contact or look down while talking to white people because it was illegal to look at them in the face during Jim Crowe.

That shit is psychological and it is real.

Which is why I get so angry when white people think reverse racism is real, or that we should just ‘get over it’, or that we’re playing ~The Race Card~
